PROJECT DESCRIPTION

1) SUMMARY

This project is to take the old oral tradition, more specifically the old myths and to promote it. Myths are the legends of gods, heroes or mysterious myth creatures. They clarify old people’s beliefs, their understanding of structure of the world the their moral values. Myths have accumulated the experience of ancestors which were fantastically viewed.  This fantasy world is fun and attractive for kids because it evokes the imagination and creativity. By selecting this theme we will encourage children to read, will help to familiarize themselves with the oral tradition, the nation’s mythical stories, their significance. The project partners will share their nations’ old stories; will discuss the plot and characters, will present when and how the stories appeared, how they were narrated, what they ment for people. This is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the country’s  traditions, culture, ways of thinking, mindset,  to find answers what led to these differences, what are the most important values of each nation.

The project will consist of four phases. In the 1st phase students will get familiar with their countries’ most popular and most typical mythological stories, will present them in a variety of ways. In the 2nd phase the students will get known to their own and other countries ‘ stories, which explains the beginning of the world, according to national myths/legends and secrets of the nature. It will be interesting to compare the ancestral beliefs. The 3rd part of the project is designed to characterize and present mythological characters and at the time of the 4th phase we’ll get familiar with the heroes of mythological stories and their remarkable activities. Students will compare them with the most famous nowadays persons.

2) THE PURPOSE

Taking part in a Comenius school partnership would be a great chance for all partner schools.

This project will help to realize the priorities of Life Long Learning: develop cultural dialogue, educate active citizenship, disclose and educate creativeness and other strong personal features, encourage incessant cooperation and learning based on sharing the experience.

This project is important as it encourages pupils to feel the meaning of ethnic culture as values which help to maintain the identity of the nation. Also the project encourages to learn conveying these feelings with the relevant respect and to stay open to other nations’ cultural variety. Through the activities of the project we’ll show that all ethnic cultures are based on the same human values.

Many of the pupils within the partnership are quiet young persons. This is the time when the civil provisions are formed: not only in relation to their nation, but the approach to other countries, cultures and races. The project is important because it will give the opportunity for students while communicate with people from other countries to significantly expand their horizons. The pupils’ identity both world and European citizens will be improved. In one of the activities of the project – comparing mythological heroes to current ones young people will form the provisions of morality and value that will help to shape the future of the world.

For embodying the project objectives we chose a wide range of activities for equal participation opportunities and ensured the general competencies and life skills education. Communicating and working together with peers pupils will be proud to popularize their culture and history in many creative ways. This will help the to develop self-cofidence, self-esteem, disclose personal creative skills.  Artistic-creative activities, based on the motives of mythology, will show, how nowadays art can appeal to the old creation as inspirational source. The interface between cultures of different periods shown in creative activities would be one of the sought results of the project.

The project objective is to not only to provide cultural knowledge, educate creativeness or openness to other nations, but to provide coherence to the wider world and nature. Whereas myths express the dignified human relationship with the live environment, we will encourage children to consider the importance of unique monuments of nature, protected natural areas and share knowledge about this national asset for they could feel the unity of man and nature and its inspirational powers.

Thanks to contact with children from other countries, pupils will be able to develop the ability to speak English language that they learn at school in real situations. Furthermore they would be able to develop their vocabulary in also the other partner schools languages. This will help to develop the capacity to adapt to the changing, diverse and multicultural environment.

ICT, used in the project, are one of the ways to bring the youth to meaningful use of virtual space, to give understanding of what importance is this instrument to develop intercultural proceedings.
